Fourth of July is here! What's going on around town?

Is there anything more quintessentially summer than the Fourth of July, and all the celebrations that go along with it? I don't think so. So, if you are just not in the mood to throw your own festivities, here's a short list of some happenings around town that you might want to check out!

Busch Gardens Fourth of July Fireworks

When: July 3, 4, and 5, 2018 / Fireworks at 9:30

Watch your July 4 fireworks from one of the many park restaurants, or picnic and enjoy more casually (picnics and cruises must be booked in advance.) You can spend the day in the park and enjoy the fireworks to celebrate that evening. 

Star Spangled Celebration

What: King's Dominion Festive 4th Celebration
Where: King's Dominion
When: June 30, 2018- July 4, 2018

Spend the day at King's Dominion while it's festooned in the red, white and blue. Enjoy performances, rides and of course... fireworks! Free admission for service members and discount for friends and family. A great day of fun for all ages!

Rocketts Red Glare at Rocketts Landing

Free family-friendly event, open to the public, with activities, vendors, music, food, craft beer offerings and a pro beach volleyball tournament hosted by EVP Tour. Culminating with riverfront FIREWORKS on July 4th at 9 PM! Limited parking is available at Rocketts, so grab a Lyft and have them drop you off for a 25% discount as the event's ride share partner, or try out the new GRTC Pulse to get you there quickly and easily!

Dogwood Dell Fourth of July Celebration

When: July 4, 2018 6:30 pm

Pack a picnic, grab a blanket, and head over to Dogwood Dell to celebrate our nation’s independence in classic Richmond style with a free night of music and fireworks! The Richmond Jazz Band kicks things off with a pre-concert at 6:30 p.m. The main concert begins at 7:30 p.m. featuring the Richmond Concert Band, followed by fireworks at dusk. Arrive early to get a seat within the Dell. Free. 

Chesterfield County Fourth of July Celebration

Where: Chesterfield County Fairgrounds
When: July 4, 2018 5:00 pm

Celebrate Independence Day with a spectacular evening fireworks display! The event, held at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds (across from L.C. Bird High School), includes an activity area for children*, food vendors and special entertainment.  Blankets or lawn chairs are recommended. Limited parking; roads leading to fairgrounds will be closed when parking lots are full. Don’t miss this fun-filled event for all ages. (No alcohol, glass bottles, pets or personal fireworks are allowed.)

Red, White, & Lights- A Fourth of July Celebration

What: Red, White, & Lights - A Fourth of July Celebration
Where: Dorey Park
When: July 4, 2018 5:00 pm

Spend your Fourth at Dorey Park in Henrico County, and enjoy live entertainment, food trucks, and children’s activities. At dusk, enjoy a concert by the Richmond Symphony, accompanied by fireworks and laser light show!

Carmax Free Fourth of July at Lewis Ginter

Where: Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens
When: July 4, 2018  9:00 am - 5:00 pm *Daytime only! NO Fireworks

Celebrate CarMax Free Fourth of July by enjoying the gardens, Butterflies LIVE! and Origami in the Garden. Wear red, white and blue and bring your wagons and strollers to decorate for a parade in the Children’s Garden. Terrific way to celebrate and enjoy some family fun, and especially good for those with little ones who just don't love the sensory overload of fireworks displays. 

Independence Day Liberty or Death Reenactment

What: Liberty or Death Reenactment
Where: Historic St. John's Church
When: July 4, 2018  10:45 am and 1:00 pm *Daytime only! NO Fireworks

Celebrate America’s birthday with a reenactment at St. John's Church in the historic Church Hill neighborhood! Venture back through time to March 1775 and watch history come alive at the original location of the Second Virginia Convention. Hear Patrick Henry’s immortal “Give me liberty or give me death!” speech and enjoy a special reading of The Declaration of Independence just for the 4th of July! The event is free and open to the public, but you may purchase a ticket in advance to reserve a seat at the forefront of history!

RVA Fireworks on the River

What: RVA Fireworks on the River
Where: James River Park System (Starts at Forest Hill Park)
When: July 4, 2018  6:00 pm- 11:30 pm

Want to enjoy the fireworks in a more active way? This event, sponsored by Richmond Grid and RVA Paddlesports, will put have you rafting from Forest Hill Park to a secluded island to enjoy a picnic dinner and a view of the fireworks over the river. What an awesome, expedition style way to celebrate!

The Flying Squirrels are playing the Akron Ducks on the 4th, with fireworks to follow, but the game is sold out! Catch the fireworks from afar, or from any number of great spots in town that evening.

Nearly all the breweries and rooftop bars are having some sort of celebration or special event, too, so there is no reason to stay home and watch fireworks on tv!
